The Center for Peace Canada (CPC) is proud to announce a special workshop in observance of Human Rights Day on Tuesday, December 10, 2025. The event, titled “Building Bridges: A Workshop on Human Rights Advocacy in Canada,” will bring together community members, activists, and students to explore practical ways to advance human rights in their daily lives.
Human Rights Day, celebrated annually on December 10, marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), a milestone document in the history of human rights. This year’s workshop aims to go beyond awareness and provide participants with tangible skills and knowledge to become effective advocates in their own communities.
“Human rights are not just abstract concepts; they are the foundation of a just and equitable society,” said Dr. Amina Khan, Programs Director at the Center for Peace Canada. “Our goal with this workshop is to empower individuals to translate their passion for justice into concrete action. We will be focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities for human rights advocacy here in Canada.”
The workshop will feature a series of interactive sessions, including:
- Human Rights 101: A foundational session on the history of human rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- Effective Advocacy: A hands-on session on communication strategies, public speaking, and using social media for advocacy.
- Case Studies in Action: A discussion-based segment where participants will analyze real-world human rights cases and develop strategic responses.
The event will be held from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Frontline Community Centre (Meeting Hall), located at 13031 Markham Rd. #27 Scarborough, ON M1X 1L9. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Human Rights, Humanitarian Solidarity and Peaceful Coexistence Project in Bugarama( Rwanda) and Kamanyola (DRC),
Dear Sir / Madam,
We have the honour to contact you on behalf of APEDDH (Organization for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights), a local humanitarian and peacebuilding organization working to protect human rights, prevent conflicts, and promote social cohesion in Rwanda and in the Great Lakes region.
Following the recent violence and bombardments in Kamanyola (South Kivu, DRC), which resulted in the destruction of homes, schools and health facilities, hundreds of civilians were forced to flee across the border to Bugarama (Rusizi District, Rwanda). Beyond urgent humanitarian needs, this displacement has also created risks of social tensions and erosion of long-standing peaceful coexistence between the two border communities.
In response, APEDDH has developed a six-month cross-border project aimed at:
· protecting and documenting human rights violations affecting displaced and host communities;
· strengthening compassion, solidarity and humanitarian support;
· preventing community-level conflicts through dialogue and youth engagement;
· promoting peaceful coexistence and sustainable cross-border peace between Bugarama and Kamanyola.
The project is structured around four strategic pillars: human rights protection, humanitarian solidarity, peacebuilding, and advocacy and is supported by a detailed and justified budget of USD 68,600, which remains flexible depending on partnership modalities.
Given your recognized commitment to human rights, civilian protection and peacebuilding, we would welcome the opportunity to explore technical, financial or institutional partnership, or any other form of support you may consider appropriate.
We remain at your full disposal and find attached the full project proposal and detailed budget for this initiative.
Thank you very much for your attention and for your continued commitment to communities affected by conflict.
Yours sincerely,
KIZUNGU M. Alexis
